Riverside's Most Famous Street Was Named After a Queen 👑
Victoria Avenue just isn't another street in Riverside. I think in my opinion, it's the most beautiful street in the entire Inland Empire. Stretching nearly 8 miles from Loier all the way to the Victoria Country Club. This isn't just a road. It's a living piece of Riverside history and Inland Empire history. Victoria Avenue was created back in 1892 during the Riverside Citrus Boom. Matthew Gage, yes, the same guy behind the Gage Canal that brought water to Arlington Heights, wanted more than a road. He envisioned a grand boulevard inspired by Europe. Lined with a variety of trees and surrounded by the thriving orange groves. The avenue was named after Queen Victoria. Who knew? And quickly became one of California's most uh beautiful scenic drives. Today, that vision still alive. As you drive down Victoria, you'll pass towering palm trees, majestic eucalyptus, pepper trees, and hundreds of citrus trees. Depending on the season, you'll even catch the incredible fragrance of the orange blossoms filling the air. It's one of those places that reminds you why Riverside became known around the world for its citrus heritage. But Victoria Avenue is definitely a lot more than just that beautiful drive. Along that nearly 8 mile drive, you'll find about five parks and recreational areas, miles of walking and biking paths, and more than a dozen nurseries and garden centers that continue Riverside's rich agriculture tradition. As a matter of fact, you might even be able to pick up your avocados um as you go for a walk. Every day you'll see cyclist training, runners getting in their miles, and families out in the evening walks, and neighbors simply enjoy one of the most peaceful places in the city. One of the thing that makes Victoria Avenue so unique is that the city intentionally preserved its historic character. Between the major intersections, you'll notice that nearly every cross is controlled by a stop sign, not a traffic light. It keeps traffic moving at a slower pace. It help preserves the scenic beauty that people have been enjoying for well over a century. As you continue down the avenue, you'll also pass the historic Victoria Country Club, one of California's oldest country clubs and travel through one um through the heart of Riverside's famous Citrus Industry, the very industry that helped put our city and the Inland Empire on the map. In 1969, Victoria Avenue was designated Riverside Culture Heritage Landmark number eight. And in 2000, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, ensuring this incredible boulevard would be protected for generations to come. I've been a realtor for over 25 years. I've driven thousands of streets across the Inland Empire. But if you ask me to pick one road that represents everything that's special about our area, it's Victoria Avenue. It's not just a street. It literally is a front porch.
