Money comes and goes but not your health
I had my first colonoscopy last week. And surprisingly, it wasn't the procedure that stuck with me. It was what it made me realize. As I get older, I'm starting to realize that money comes and goes, but your health doesn't. The last 25 years of running my own business, everything became about the next goal, the next task, the next deal, the next commission, the next meeting, the next networking event, the next seminar, everything was next. I just assumed if I just worked hard, everything else would fall into place. But as I sat in the doctor's office this week, it really hit me hard that none of that really matters if I don't have my health. The reason I had this realization is as I was sitting there in the doctor's office getting ready to give my colonoscopy, uh, which was just a checkup that I had not done for 5 years, uh, the person next to me was trying to find out how aggressive her cancer was going to be. Money comes and goes. Investments come and go. Deals come and go. Our health doesn't. And it made me realize I would not trade any money or amount of money for health. Over the last year, I've been trying to change that. I've been trying to be more present and be an observer of life, enjoy life instead of racing through it. I've realized that we spend so much time protecting our image and our checking account that we neglect ourselves, our spirit, our body. Um, we always say we'll get to it. We'll get to it. We'll get to it. But the reality is sometimes we don't get to it until it's too late. Unfortunately, some health problems don't give us second chances. And now I'm at the age where I'm starting to see my loved ones have to deal with the ailments that come with age. So my perspective is very simple. Take care of the one thing that we might not get a second chance on. Go for that walk. Go to the gym. Eat healthy. Go to your doctor's appointments. Listen to your doctor. Spend time with the people you love. Go do the things you want. Because what health allows us to do is live a quality life with our loved ones.
So, I hope you guys are taking care of yourself because God knows we don't know when that's going to change. At the end of the day, your greatest investment is not your house, your retirement account, or your job. It's your health. And unfortunately, people like myself, sometimes we're so stubborn that we don't notice it until we're a little bit older.
