What is the story behind this small stone bridge?

Did you know one of Riverside's most iconic bridges was designed by the same architect who designed the Mission Inn?

There's a very small unique bridge that always caught my attention and I was always curious what the history was behind it. So I decided, let's go figure it out. This bridge, the Buenav Vista bridge, if you're coming from downtown Riverside going towards Rubido, connects the neighborhood to the right to Mount Rubido. And it's a small stone bridge. And I always wanted to find out what was up with that.

If you've ever walked Mount Rudo, you'll probably cross this bridge without realizing you're stepping through a piece of riverside history. In 1906, Frank Miller, the visionary behind the mission in, wanted visitors to experience Mount Rubido as one of Southern California's greatest attractions. To make this happen, he created a scenic roadway leading up the mountain. To connect downtownside to the new road, a bridge was built over Wav Vista Avenue. Even more impressive, the original bridge was designed by Arthur Benton, the architect of the mission in his plans just didn't accommodate accommodate automobiles. They also included a separate pedestrian walkway, something that was kind of forward thinking back in the early 1900s. The stone used to build the bridge came directly from Mount Rubo itself. As workers carved the road into the mountainside, they reused the blasted rock to reconstruct the bridge and line the roadway, giving visitors a feeling that the entire route belong to the landscape. By the early 1930s, Riverside had grown so much that nearly 6,000 vehicles were crossing here every single day. The city replaced the original bridge with this beautiful stone structure you see today dedicated in 1932 before a crowd of 5,000 uh people and the governor of California. As a matter of fact, uh Calpaly and ROC band participated this day. Today, the Buenova Bridge is designated Riverside Cultural Heritage Landmark number 74. It's more than a bridge. It's a front door to one of Riverside's most beloved landmarks, a reminder that great cities are built by people who dream big enough to connect them.
